BAINBRIDGE – The traditional end of the Carter Arts & Lecture Series will feature much more than music as ABAC Bainbridge introduces “Stallions on the Square” on Friday, April 19.
“The concert downtown is always a great community event,” said Dr. Michael Kirkland, Director of ABAC Bainbridge. “This year, we want to add something extra to it for our alumni, our students, and anyone interested in all of the things happening on our campus.”
An ABAC alumni tent will have a selection of refreshments and merchandise for alumni along with members of the College’s Alumni Relations department. Also, current students can stop by the tent for a special voucher that they can use for free treats at Scoops and The Bean Café.
“We appreciate The Bean and Scoops for partnering with us this year,” Kirkland said. “This is the first year that we’ve added these extra attractions. But we’d love for this to get bigger with more businesses involved each year.”
The ABAC Jazz Ensemble will perform along with The Jim Gasior Trio in a concert beginning at 6 p.m. at Bainbridge’s Downtown Square. Gasior is the Associate Professor of Jazz and Instrumental Studies at the New World School of the Arts in Miami. As a pianist and keyboardist, he has performed and/or recorded with international pop artists and groups such as Ricky Martin, Kelly Clarkson, Alih Jey, and Chayanne as well as jazz artists like Benny Golson, Slide Hampton, Freddie Hubbard, and others.
The Jazz Ensemble performs a broad range of musical style encompassing styles such as swing, bebop, Afro-Cuban, bossa nova, fusion, and more. The group has done three European tours, performed for the opening of the Olympic Games, jazz festivals, and two World’s Fairs.
“We’ll have chairs available, but everyone is encouraged to bring their own,” Kirkland said. “We always have a laid-back atmosphere for this event. But adding in something for our alumni and a chance to visit and catch up will make it even better.”
The concert will mark the end of the 11th season of the Carter Arts & Lecture Series, which brings speakers, authors, and performing artists to the ABAC Bainbridge campus. All events in the series are free and open to the public.
