TIFTON— Alexandra Ikner, a senior agricultural education major from Perry, was selected as the top academic student at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Wednesday when she was named the J.G. Woodroof Scholar at the annual Honors Day ceremony.
Ikner has been on the President’s List five times while pursuing her bachelor’s degree in agricultural education. She has maintained a 3.97 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. She plans to graduate from ABAC at the spring commencement ceremony on May 9.
During her time at ABAC, Ikner has been active in the ABAC Collegiate FFA organization and the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow. She traveled to Louisiana in 2016 with her fellow ABAC students to assist the flooding victims.
An American FFA Degree recipient, Ikner has worked with the Residence Life and Housing office at ABAC and for the student newspaper, “The Stallion.” In fact, she became the first editor of the paper’s agricultural section. A member of the ABAC Honors Program, Ikner has received scholarships from the National FFA, the Georgia Garden Club, and the National Garden Club
Ikner traveled to Atlanta in February when the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) hosted the Academic Recognition Day students from each of the 26 colleges and universities in the USG at its meeting. Chancellor Steve Wrigley then honored the students at a luncheon.
A total of 22 students received discipline awards at the Honors Day ceremony. These awards were presented to ABAC students who excelled in their individual disciplines.
Discipline award winners from the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources included Abigail McMillan from Climax, agribusiness; Danyela Salas from Moultrie, agricultural education-agricultural studies track; Hannah Roberts from Douglas, agricultural education-education track; Bradley Bowen from Rhine, agriculture-general track; Lauren Braddy from Mount Vernon, agriculture-crop production track; Kasey Herrington from Vienna, agriculture-crop and soil science; Hannah Rentz from Ehrhardt, S.C., agriculture-livestock production track; Grant Thelen from Roswell, environmental horticulture-turf and ornamental track; Jhanavi Williams from Blackshear, environmental horticulture-turfgrass and golf course management track; and Scout Hogan from Douglasville, natural resource management-wildlife track.
Discipline award winners from the School of Arts and Sciences included Kathryn Mims from Donalsonville, agricultural communication; Evelyn Faith White from Albany, biology-general track; Miranda Somers from Macon, biology-health science track; Jeremy Paradice from Moultrie and Megan Shannon from Dublin, biology-pre professional track; Karmen Tovar from Lenox, history and government; Allison Brock from Chula, rural community development-social and community development track; Hylan Schmidt from Tifton, associate of fine arts in music-instrumental track; and Kaycee Aultman from Tifton, writing and communication.
School of Nursing and Health Sciences discipline award winners were Rebekah North from Hahira for the Bachelor of Science in nursing-RN to BSN completion track and Lauren Jackson from Hawkinsville for the associate degree in nursing. Leanna Gordon from Iron City received the discipline award in business and economic development from the Stafford School of Business.
