TIFTON—The Azalea Winds will provide a special tribute to the 80th anniversary of the battle at Pearl Harbor at 7 p.m. on Nov. 16 in Howard Auditorium as a part of the annual fall band concert at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The concert is open to the public at no charge.
ABAC Director of Bands Deborah Bradley said if weather permits, the ABAC Jazz Ensemble will open the evening with a few selections in the Howard Auditorium Rotunda at 6:30 p.m. The ABAC Concert Band will perform at 7 p.m. on stage in Howard. Several members of the ABAC group will also perform with the popular South Georgia Classic Community Band.
The Azalea Winds portion of the event is titled “Let’s Remember,” a nod to the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Area composers Christina Huss and Alan Carter from Valdosta have composed an original composition that reflects the actual battle scene and horror of the event.
“The listener will experience the emotions and somber effects of that morning that have gone down in history,” Bradley said.
Bradley said several Christmas pieces will also be featured in the concert. Area musicians from Tifton and many South Georgia communities will be a part of the presentation.
