Student-Parent Resources

ABAC welcomes all student-parents. We know that being a student-parent can be challenging at times. These challenges are why we have compiled a list of resources. On this page, student-parents can view resources to help them succeed. This list includes financial resources, counseling and accommodations, academic support, childcare recommendations, and healthcare. This page also includes local, statewide, and national resources. Thank you for your dedication.

Financial Resources

College can be expensive for student-parents. Here are a few scholarships and grants that student-parents can apply for to assist them with the cost of tuition, textbooks, childcare, and transportation. The Office of Financial Aid also provides a list of various types of financial aid for students to apply for.

Counseling and Academic Support

Attending college can be a challenge for most student-parents. The Office of Counseling and Accommodation Services (CAS), along with Academic Support provides resources for all students that attend ABAC. Please feel free to contact the Office of Counseling and Accommodation Services for any emotional and/or psychological support that you may need. The counseling office provides students with various services that include personal counseling, the “Let’s Talk” program allows students to drop in for brief counseling sessions, and “LetsChat@ABAC” is a support line that offers students mental health support through difficult times. Accommodation services are also available for students with disabilities.

Student-parents that need additional help with course work can visit the Academic Support page on ABAC’s website. Academic Support provides resources that include tutoring for students that need additional help. Learning Support is a program that provides additional support for students taking English or math. There are also resources for online courses, review sessions, testing centers and more. Being a student-parent may be a challenge, but you do not have to endure these challenges alone.

Childcare

A common challenge for most student-parents is the expense of childcare. There are a few programs that student-parents can apply to for assistance in affordable childcare. To minimize absenteeism, there are a few daycare providers located in Tifton, Georgia for parents that need childcare assistance.

List of local daycare providers:

  1. Miss Daisy’s Darlings
  2. Mother’s Love
  3. Northside Baptist
  4. Maggie Campbell’s Gingerbread House
  5. Potter’s House Child Care Center
  6. Love Unlimited Daycare

Healthcare

Obtaining proper healthcare is also important for student-parents. Affordable healthcare is accessible at ABAC’s Health Center. Student-parents that need affordable health insurance can apply for ABAC’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Not only does ABAC’s affordable Student Health Insurance Plan cover students of ABAC, but this health insurance also covers the dependents of students. ABAC’s Health Center also offers quality women’s healthcare.
