TIFTON—Choose from farm fresh items ranging from eggs to produce at the Wiregrass Farmers Market when it opens for a ninth season at 9 a.m. on April 6 at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Georgia Museum of Agriculture.
Overseen by a volunteer board of community members who are passionate about sustainable living and locally grown products, the Market will offer a variety of goods during its 2019 spring and fall seasons. Museum liaison Polly Huff said free range eggs, small-batch fresh roasted coffee, locally grown meats, fresh produce, artisanal breads and baked goods, homemade jams and jellies, goat cheeses, cold-pressed oils, and honey will all be offered directly by their producers.
“Local artists, authors, and crafters will be selling handmade jewelry, art, books, goat milk soaps, knives, birdhouses, turned wood, and various other clean-living products,” Huff said. “Native plants and handmade décor also make an appearance at the Market.
“The Wiregrass Farmers Market is the only farmers’ market in the area which directly connects the local growers and makers to shoppers. No resale or commercially-made items are ever a part of the Market’s offerings.”
Baby animals often visit the Market’s animal pen to the delight of the youngest visitors. A free children’s activity takes place at least once a month, and canning club and educational classes are offered throughout the season. The Market also features a demonstration garden, which is overseen by market volunteer Penny Peters.
Country Fair, an Ice Cream Social, the Car to Farm Tour and the Farm to Table Dinner are only a few of the special events taking place during the Market season. More details will be forthcoming.
