TIFTON—Vocalist and trumpeter Byron Stripling will take the stage at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on April 18 in the final performance of the year for the ABAC Presents! Performing Arts Series.
The artistic director and conductor of the highly acclaimed Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Stripling will perform with the ABAC Jazz Ensemble at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium on the ABAC campus. The event caps off the day-long ABAC Jazz Festival which features 11 high school jazz bands.
A spectacular trumpeter who climbed to fame with the Count Basie Orchestra, Stripling immerses the audience into his music with different blends of musical styles.
“The happiness that he exudes through his trumpet, his vocals, and his words is reminiscent of Louis Armstrong, yet very much his own,” ABAC Arts Connection Director Wayne Jones said.
Stripling has played and recorded extensively with the bands of Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Dave Brubeck, Lionel Hampton, Clark Terry, Louis Bellson, and Buck Clayton as well as the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and the GRP All Star Big Band.
Jones encouraged all performing arts series season ticket-holders to be seated in Howard Auditorium by 6:45 p.m. for the performance. A limited number of tickets to the performance are available at www.purplepass.com/ABAC or by calling (229) 391-4895. Adult admission is $20, and student admission is $10.
PB2 Foods is the ABAC Presents! series sponsor. ABAC Presents! is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. Georgia Council for the Arts also receives support from its partner agency, the National Endowment for the Arts.
