BAINBRIDGE – Dr. Frederick Davis will present “After Silent Spring” as part of the Carter Arts and Lecture Series on Thursday, Oct. 19. The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. at the Kirbo Center on the Bainbridge campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and is free of charge.
“After Silent Spring” examines the proliferation of pesticides in American agriculture after the introduction of DDT. Moreover, the lecture reveals how pesticide development and usage continued to expand in the years following the ban on DDT late in 1972.
Davis is Professor and Head of the Department of History at Purdue University. He recently published “Banned: A History of Pesticides and the Science of Toxicology.”
“ABAC Bainbridge is proud to present another year of enrichment and educational value for our area,” said Dr. Michael Kirkland, executive director for ABAC Bainbridge. “We are excited to bring Dr. Davis in as part of our Carter Arts and Lecture Series, and we know the subject of his lecture will be of interest to a lot of people in our area.”
The Carter Arts & Lecture Series, now in its eighth season, is committed to enhancing the educational experience by bringing compelling speakers, distinguished authors, and performing arts to the ABAC Bainbridge campus. These events are designed to bring the campus and wider public together to educate, inspire and spark imagination.
The Carter Arts and Lecture Series is sponsored by The Thomas M. and Irene B. Kirbo Foundation and the First Port City Bank.
