ABOUT Beyond the Classroom/Outreach (SAS)
On-Campus TV Studio and Radio Station
Students can explore the areas of radio, TV, newspaper and literary magazines without leaving campus. Stallion TV presents regular newscasts about events at ABAC on Facebook and YouTube, covers live events at ABAC, and produces documentaries. WPLH is ABAC’s student radio station and a division of ABAC Student Media. Broadcasting from campus, WPLH 103.1 FM is funded and operated by students. Students have the opportunity to have their own radio show using state-of-the-art equipment.
Award Winning Journalism Opportunities
The award-winning student newspaper The Stallion covers news, sports, lifestyles, opinions and agriculture on the ABAC campus. More than 25 student writers and editors contribute to the newspaper and publish a new issue every two weeks. Published annually, Pegasus and Adroit are produced and edited by students, who select fiction, non-fiction, poetry, art, and photographs to be included in the publications.
Community Involvement
Students at ABAC recently founded a new campus organization, ABAC Gives Back, to engage students from across campus in coordinated service projects. As the club’s name suggests, ABAC Gives Back is dedicated to using service opportunities to foster a strong relationship between the Tifton community and ABAC’s student body, while also providing students with extensive leadership and networking opportunities. The organization, which is wholly student-led, has developed a community-wide service day event, held in March. During the first annual event student volunteers worked in partnership with over twenty community organizations and with many other individuals across town to help ABAC say thank you to Tifton for being home to the college and encourage students to find meaningful connections here.
