“Meet me at the Fair:” ABAC Presents! series hosts Paragon Ragtime Orchestra February 18
The ABAC Presents! series will feature the celebrated Paragon Ragtime Orchestra on concert on Tuesday, February 18.
Paragon Ragtime Orchestra recreates the sounds of early musical theater, silent cinema, and vintage dance. The program is “Meet Me at the Fair: Music from the Great World’s Fairs” and will feature a musical and visual celebration of music from the 1876 Centennial Exhibition, the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair of “Meet Me in St. Louis” fame, and the 1916 Panama-Pacific Exposition.
“Paragon Ragtime Orchestra is a unique group that has appeared in some of the most prestigious concert halls in America including Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center,” said Wayne Jones, Arts Connection director. “Their syncopated renditions of silent film music, early music theater, and vintage dance music can be heard on Main Street USA at Disneyland, Disney World, and Disneyland Paris. They can also be heard on numerous soundtracks of several motion pictures and television programs. You really must come see this incredible group live as they play their unique literature and even accompany a silent film sequence as part of the concert.”
Paragon Ragtime Orchestra has acquired a considerable following from its worldwide concert hall, university, and festival appearances and can be heard on Walt Disney’s Main Street USA locations at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fl., Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, and Disneyland Paris.
This concert will be followed by the Atlanta Shakespeare Company’s performance of “Romeo and Juliet” on March 11, and the season will end with a jazz concert on April 17 featuring trombonist Robert Edwards and jazz vocalist Vanessa Perea performing with the ABAC Jazz Ensemble.
