Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Elementary Education offers a high-quality, experiential education focused pathway for students preparing to become skilled and confident PreK-5 teachers for Georgia’s classrooms. Rooted in ABAC’s longstanding commitment to serving rural communities, this program blends rigorous coursework with extensive, developmentally sequenced field experiences across PreK–5 settings. Teacher Candidates enter as a cohort each fall and progress together through four structured blocks of study, culminating in a full semester student teaching placement. Throughout the program, candidates gain meaningful experience in multiple grade bands, PreK/K, 1st–3rd, and 4th–5th grades, to ensure deep pedagogical knowledge, confidence, and to ensure they graduate ready to meet the needs of young learners.
A defining feature of ABAC’s program is its intentional focus on rural education and the strengths, traditions, and close-knit partnerships that shape rural schools and communities. Candidates complete fieldwork in at least two different public school systems, with opportunities to learn in rural settings while also gaining experience in suburban or urban environments. Coursework is closely connected to classroom practice, with emphasis on literacy development, STEM instruction, and evidence-based teaching methods. Graduates will leave ABAC fully certified and well prepared to contribute to the success, innovation, and long-term vitality of Georgia’s rural schools and communities they serve.
