Frank J. Jones, Jr., named ABAC’s 2026 Outstanding Business Leader

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s Alumni Association has recognized Frank J. Jones, Jr., as the recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Business Leader Award, an honor presented annually to alumni who demonstrate excellence in their profession, leadership in business and commitment to service.

The award, established in 1979, was presented by Jones’s son, Jake, a 2009 graduate of ABAC and a member of the ABAC Alumni Board.

Jones, a 1982 ABAC graduate, built his career in South Georgia after completing his bachelor’s degree at Georgia Southwestern State University and earning his Certified Public Accountant designation. He began his professional path working alongside his family while attending college, an experience that helped shape his work ethic and leadership style.

He later served as a partner at Bowen, Phillips and Jones before joining Stafford Development Co. in 1995. Today, he serves as president and chief executive officer, guiding the company with a focus on long-term growth and community impact.

Under his leadership, Stafford Development Co. transitioned to an employee stock ownership plan in 2016, expanding opportunities for team members to share in the company’s success. He has also implemented operational strategies that emphasize accountability, collaboration and shared values across the organization. During the award presentation, Jake Jones spoke to how his father’s philosophy led to these transformative changes:

“Frank leads with the belief that a company’s mission should be to improve people’s lives,” Jones said. “He has never been afraid of the risks required for growth, often telling us that you can't move forward if you're afraid to fail.”

Jones has led several major development efforts across Georgia, including the Terminal South project in Atlanta. While the company’s reach extends statewide, its continued investment in Tifton has contributed to local economic growth and job creation.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jones is known for his support of community organizations, including Ruth’s Cottage and the Patticake House. He has also maintained strong ties to ABAC, supporting scholarships and serving five years as chairman of the Stafford School of Business Advisory Council, where he provided guidance on academic programs and accreditation efforts.

“Frank is a consummate professional and humanitarian whose support has made a profound and enduring impact on the Stafford School of Business,” said Franzelle Mathis-Pertilla, former interim dean of the Stafford School of Business. “His legacy of service continues to shape our work in meaningful ways.”

Throughout his career, Jones has been recognized for his steady leadership, commitment to integrity, and belief in investing in people.

The Outstanding Business Leader Award highlights individuals whose achievements reflect positively on ABAC and its mission to prepare students for success in their careers and communities.

Jones was honored on April 10 during the 2026 Alumni Association awards program.
