ABAC Arts & Culture to host two events in early March

ABAC Arts & Culture will present two unique events in Tifton next week.

The ABAC Concert Choir will be performing Fauré’s Requiem in D minor Op. 48 on Tuesday, March 3, and the “ABAC Presents!” performing arts series will host Candlelight Celtic on Thursday, March 5.

Fauré’s Requiem in D minor Op. 48
Tuesday, March 3, at 7 p.m.
St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Tifton
Free and open to everyone

Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem in D minor, Op. 48 is one of the composer’s most recognized sacred works, written between 1887 and 1890. Known for its restrained and contemplative character, the piece departs from the dramatic style of many traditional Requiem settings, focusing instead on themes of peace and rest. Its seven-movement structure, including the well-known “Pie Jesu” and “In Paradisum,” has made it a lasting part of the choral repertoire and a frequently performed work by ensembles around the world.

The ABAC Concert Choir, composed of student, faculty and community members, will perform the piece.

Candlelight Celtic
Thursday, March 5, at 7 p.m.
Howard Auditorium on ABAC’s campus
Tickets available at arts.abac.edu ($10 for students and $20 for the community)

Utilizing Irish songs and stories with the warm glow of 1,000 candles, Candlelight Celtic is set to amaze attendees starting at 7 p.m. Candlelight Celtic was created by 2009 World Champion of Irish Dance Scott Doherty and Irish musician Chris Smith, and it has performed all over the United States. Combining voices and instruments with its soft lighting, the candles flicker like stars for a cozy setting, inviting attendees to experience Ireland’s rich heritage.

“ABAC is very excited to host Candlelight Celtic on campus,” said Kyle Basko, program coordinator for the School of Social Sciences, Education & Arts. “’ABAC Presents!’ is always a fresh experience for the community, and this performance will not be an exception.”
