“Writers Harvest 2023” will be held at the College’s Bowen Hall 100 on Thursday, Oct. 26 beginning at 7 p.m. The event will feature poets Mac Gay, Al Maginnes, and Sean Sexton, who will read from their works while also offering a unique question and answer session. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to purchase the poets’ books.
The night is also dedicated to combating hunger and homelessness in the area. Those who wish to attend must bring a single canned good or other nonperishable food item, all of which will be donated to Brother Charlie’s Rescue Mission and the ABAC Food Pantry.
“It’s a real treat to have these three incredible poets on campus,” said Jeff Newberry, an ABAC Professor of English as well as the College’s Poet in Residence. “Their work is accessible and intellectual, and we are fortunate to have them share their talents with the community.”
The ABAC Food Pantry is accessible to the College’s students, faculty, or staff in need. Brother Charlie’s has served the Tiftarea since 1979 and assists persons in exiting homelessness by providing outreach, shelter, essential and supportive services, resource management, collaboration, partnerships, and networking.
Sponsorship of the event comes from the ABAC Department of English and Communication, the School of Arts & Sciences, and the ABAC Foundation.
