TIFTON—German Dalmagro, the International Tennis Association Player of the Year in 2003, has been selected as a member of the Class of 2022 of the Athletics Hall of Fame at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
ABAC Athletics Director Alan Kramer said the 2022 class also includes the 2002 women’s state championship basketball team, three-sport athlete Clayt Hurst, softball player Lee Davis Watson, soccer standout Nikita Morris, tennis player, coach, and contributor Margaret Treadway, contributor and volunteer assistant softball coach James Winfred “Vic” Vickers, contributor and volunteer assistant softball coach Jimmy Spurlin, and Director of Public Relations Emeritus Mike Chason.
Tickets to the 6 p.m. dinner on April 1 in ABAC’s Gressette Gym are $40 per person. Tickets can be purchased from the ABAC Athletics Office at (229) 391-4930. Tickets may also be purchased online at https://athletics.abac.edu/inside/hof/2022_Hall_of_Fame_Banquet. The deadline to purchase tickets is March 25. There will be no tickets sold at the event.
Dalmagro was a National Junior College Athletic Association All-America selection in both singles and doubles in 2002 and 2003 when he played for the Golden Stallions of Kramer. He won the national championship at #2 singles in 2002 and was the national runner-up at #2 singles in 2003.
“It was just fun to be a part of those ABAC teams,” Dalmagro said. “Alan was an awesome coach. He was always in a good mood and helped us get through the tough times.”
In 2003, Dalmagro was the International Tennis Association Player of the Year. He helped to catapult the Golden Stallions to a second place finish in the national tournament in both 2002 and 2003.
“German was always so appreciative of the opportunity just to be out there,” Kramer said. “He was always listening and his mental toughness was just off the charts.”
Dalmagro continued his career at the University of West Florida where he was an NCAA Division II All-America selection for his doubles’ play in 2004. He helped to lead West Florida to a national championship in both 2004 and 2005. In four years of collegiate tennis, he lost only one singles’ match in national tournament play.
Dalmagro served as the West Florida men’s assistant coach before moving to the University of Kansas as an assistant women’s tennis coach from 2006-13 and to the University of Nebraska as the associate head coach for women’s tennis in 2013-18.
Dalmagro became the associate head coach for women’s tennis at the University of Illinois in 2018, a position he holds today.
