TIFTON—From the clarinet to the piano to brilliant vocals, the First Tuesday Concert on March 5 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will touch different genres in a delightful way.
“A Clarinetist, a Pianist, and a Singer” starring Laura Sutton Floyd, Dr. S. Russell Floyd, and Dr. Gerald Anderson begins at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths. There is no charge for admission.
“Do not miss an opportunity to hear these three artists together,” Dr. Susan Roe, who heads up the ABAC Fine Arts Department and directs the First Tuesday Concerts, said.
Raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Laura Sutton Floyd holds degrees in vocal performance from the University of Louisville and Michigan State University. Her voice is familiar to audiences in North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, and Brazil. She performed in Carnegie Hall in 2017 as a soloist in the New York premier of Mark Hayes’ “International Carol Suites.”
Roe said reviewers have said that Laura Sutton Floyd’s voice presents an “irresistible electricity and energy, holding the audience in the palm of her hand from the first note.”
Laura Sutton Floyd and her husband, Russell, live at Hilton Head Island, S.C., where Russell Floyd is the First Presbyterian Church Minister of Music. Russell Floyd earned his Ph.D. from Michigan State University, his master’s degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and his bachelor’s degree from Furman University. On Hilton Head, he is the co-principal clarinetist with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra.
Anderson taught piano, music theory, and music history at Olivet Nazarene University for 36 years where he received numerous awards for teaching excellence. He has a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the American Conservatory of Music as well as degrees from Southern Nazarene University and Texas Tech University.
Now in its 17th season, the First Tuesday Concert Series at ABAC offers concerts on five selected months from October through April. The final performance in the First Tuesday Series will feature “A Broadway Kind of Mood” starring the ABAC Musicians on April 2.
