District 2 Honor Band Concert at ABAC February 10

TIFTON – The Georgia Music Educators Association District 2 Honor Band will perform on Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. in Gressette Gym at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. This concert is open to the public at no charge.

“Prior to their closing, the Baptist Conference Center in Norman Park was the location for the District 2 GMEA Honor Band,” Johnny Folsom, Director of Bands at ABAC, said. “Last year, the district band directors approached me for help finding a new location. Although we did not start by looking at ABAC, it soon became apparent that the campus was a logical choice.”

The District 2 Honor Band consists of 300 of the most talented musicians from grades 7-12 from schools in Southwest Georgia. Students will be on the ABAC campus Feb. 8-10 working to improve their musical skills with band directors of the highest caliber. The experience concludes with the concert to showcase their talents.

“Through the help of Tyron Spearman and Melody Cowart who assisted us in finding hotel space, we were able to make ABAC the site for the annual event which features the most talented young people in southwest Georgia,” Folsom said.
