Run for the Nurses in ABAC 5K and Half Marathon Events on April 8

February 28, 2017

The School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will host the sixth annual Run for the Nurses half marathon and 5K events on April 8 to assist in the future education of nurses through ABAC scholarships.

The Scholarship Fund was developed in honor of ABAC graduate Lisa Purvis Allison to assist students who want to become registered nurses by studying for their associate degree at ABAC.  The endowed scholarship is awarded twice a year to a nursing student who meets the criteria to assist with final semester expenses.

The cost is $35 to run the half marathon and $25 for the 5K run until March 8.  Those who register from March 9 to the day of the race will pay a fee of $40 to run the half marathon and $30 for the 5K run.

The half marathon and 5K runs begin at 7:30 a.m. on the front campus of ABAC.  The 5K route is an out and back course close to campus.  The half marathon loops through campus and takes runners on a figure eight route complete with rolling hills, cow pastures, and pine trees.

Half marathon and 5K trophies will be awarded to the Overall and Master’s Overall male and female finishers. Place medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in five-year age groups for the half marathon and 5K.  All half marathon finishers will receive a medal.  Trophies will also be awarded to the first male and female ABAC Alumni finishers in both races since the races take place on Homecoming weekend.

All pre-registered participants will receive a t-shirt and imprinted race bag.  Race day registered participants will receive a t-shirt and imprinted race bag while supplies last.
