Lisa Purvis Allison Spirit of Nursing Award

The Lisa Purvis Allison “Spirit of Nursing” Award is named in honor of Lisa Purvis Allison who began the nursing program at ABAC as a single parent of two children following the accidental death of her husband.  While completing the last year of the program, she was diagnosed with colon cancer.  She was an outstanding student who personified the caring and compassionate nature of nursing.  Upon graduation she successfully passed her state board exam and was licensed as a registered nurse.  The profession of nursing was not blessed to see her work in health care as she lost her battle with cancer shortly after graduation.  The Lisa Purvis Allison Scholarship Fund was developed to honor Lisa and assist other aspiring students to fulfill their dream of becoming a registered nurse at ABAC.  The scholarship is awarded twice a year to a nursing student meeting stated criteria to assist with final semester expenses.  Nominated students write an essay.  Nursing faculty and the family of Ms. Allison are involved in the selection process.

The Spring 2017 “Spirit of Nursing ” scholarship winners were Ms. Amber Windham, a Generic Track graduate from Alapaha, Georgia, Ms. Kayla McCall, an RN to BSN Completion program graduate from Nashville, Georgia, and Ms. Tameka Lucky, a One Year Registered Nurse Track graduate from Bonaire, Georgia.  These students were nominated by faculty, wrote an essay and were selected by Lisa’s family based on the possession of qualities related to caring, compassion, and their dedication to nursing.  Ms. Hazel Purvis and Heather Allison are pictured with the graduates.
