TIFTON—The student newspaper at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College recently selected 12 individuals on the ABAC campus as recipients of the 2019 Pacesetter awards at the annual Student Leadership Recognition Reception.
“The Stallion” extends Pacesetter recognition annually to outstanding members of the ABAC community who have excelled in scholarship, service, and commitment to others. The recipients are chosen by newspaper staff members.
Pacesetter recipients from the faculty and staff included Dr. Jay Baldwin, Assistant Professor of Communication; Lynda Fisher, Alumni Director; Suzanne Smith, Lecturer of Sociology and Psychology; Dr. Alan Kramer, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Athletics; Dr. Erin Campbell, Professor of English, Honors, and Rural Studies; and Mike Chason, Public Relations Director Emeritus.
Chason received a Superior Pacesetter award. The Superior Pacesetter is presented to a person who has already received a Pacesetter award but continues to exemplify leadership and service to the campus.
Pacesetters from the ABAC student body included Kathryn Patterson, a history major from Whigham; Jessica Casaday, an agricultural education major from Jefferson; Hannah King, a biology major from Tifton; Kaycee Aultman, a writing and communication major from Tifton; Jordyn James, a general studies major from Hinesville; and Lane Riley, a business major from Adel.
James also received the Official of the Year award from Campus Recreation. Other recipients in this category included Cheyenne Murray, an agricultural education major from Rossville, Employee of the Year; Cyahn Wicker, an early childhood education major from Rentz, Leadership Award; and NyJee Sykes, a business major from Ludowici, Campus Outreach Award.
Greek Council President Wesley Harris, a forestry major from Jesup, recognized Greek Man of the Year Ben Burkey, an agribusiness major from Fort Myers, Fla., and Greek Woman of the Year Emily Ralston, an agribusiness major from Bradenton, Fla.
Kramer honored students as Running Stallion of the Year and Running Fillie of the Year from each intercollegiate sports team. Recipients included baseball player Tate Kight from Homerville who is pursuing an Associate of Science degree; softball player Kelsey Steller, an agriculture major from Lakeland, Fla.; men’s tennis player Juan Pino Contoleon, an engineering
major from Argentina; women’s tennis player Sofia Guaglianone, a business major from Argentina; women’s soccer player Hannah Glass, a writing and communication major from Kennesaw; and Adam Park, a biology major from Toronto, Canada, in men’s golf.
Kramer also recognized Ronald Pugh, an agricultural education major from Stockbridge, as the Campus Activities Board Cabbie of the Year. The Residence Hall Association was named the Club of the Year, and the Forestry Club received the Stallion Cup from Homecoming.
