August 18: introduction, receive Where I Stand assignment (First typed draft due August 20).  Read pages 1-13 in text.

 

August 19: proofreading exercise.  Read 13-22 in text.

 

August 20:  First typed draft of Where I Stand due (second, revised draft due August 21).  Peer review of WIS.  Read pages 23-30.

 

August 21:  Peer review of second typed draft of WIS (third, revised draft due August 22).  Proofreading exercise.  Homework due Monday, August 25:  On page 30 of your text, there is a list of helpful websites having to do with writing.  Go to Writer’s Web from the University of Richmond.  Scroll down to “Editing a Draft” then read “Warning signs of a Rushed Paper.”  Write and type a summary of this article.   

 

August 25:  Turn in Where I Stand at the beginning of class.  First in-class writing (WPE practice).  Read pages 44-49 in the text. 

 

August 26:  Discuss “Jackie’s Debut.”  Proofreading exercise.   Read pages 50-53.

 

August 27:  Proofreading quiz.  Discuss “Salvation.”  Read pages 54-57.

December 3:  WPE; 6:00-800 p.m. (regular time takers) and 5:30-8:30 p.m. (extended time)

 

Location:  Cordell Conference Room (in the basement of the library) for pencil and paper takers; computer takers will be assigned a lab, TBA.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Bring a picture ID, pen, dictionaries, and spell checkers (if you wish to use the last two items), but nothing else.  Notebook paper or disks will be provided.  Computer takers may use the grammar and spell check on the computer.

December 5:  8:30-10:00 a.m.:  Come to my office, King 2A, to see if you need to re-take the WPE.  I WILL ONLY BE HERE DURING THAT TIME.  IF YOU DO NOT SHOW UP THEN YOU WILL NOT KNOW WHETHER OR NOT YOU NEED TO RE-TAKE THE WPE. 

 

WPE retest; 12:00-2:00 p.m. (regular takers) and 11:30-2:30 (extended time takers)

 

Location:  Conger 322 (computer takers); King 4 (pencil takers)

 

December 8:  If you took the re-test, come to my office between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to see if you passed the re-test.

 

COMPASS exam:  Will be during the exam period, time and place TBA.
