Horticulture Club
The Horticulture Club at ABAC was established in 1979 as an organization for students with an interest in the green industry. A variety of educational and social activities are conducted that enrich the college experience beyond the classroom and broaden the students’ understanding of the green industry.
Mission Statement
- Promote environmental interests and professionalism
- Help identify and develop leadership qualities
- Promote extra-curricular activities on campus
- Encouraging experimental learning
Activities
- Cookouts to promote membership drives and student rapport
- Car washes as a fund raiser
- Ornamental plant sales throughout the year for the department and club
- Sponsor guests speakers on campus from green industry
- Collaboration with the ABAC Student Chapter of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America in conducting golf tournaments for the Agriculture Division
- Legacy Golf Tournament in raising funds for students in the agricultural division
- Collaboration with other divisional clubs in conducting the Ag. Day for students in the agricultural division
- Assisting with the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition in Moultrie
- Assisting with the Annual Georgia FFA District Horticultural Contests in Tifton and Waycross
Membership
- Expressed interest in environmental horticulture as a career or just as an activity
- Participate in club meetings and activities
- Pay semester or quarterly dues to the club as established each Fall Semester
