Reserved parking may be coming to students living at ABAC place who meet certain requirements. Housing plans to unveil a new program they have dubbed “premier parking”. This program will reserve select parking spaces for individual students who live at ABAC Place.
To qualify, students must have taken a certain number of academic hours. Seniors will have first priority registration, followed by juniors then sophomores. To park in the premier parking spaces you will need to display a special decal on your car. ‘
“The number of decals will directly correspond to the number of spaces so students with premiere parking will always have a place to park,” Kinsey said. “We are looking at anywhere between 30 to 65 spaces for premier parking” Kinsey said.
“Premier parking will be enforced 24 hours seven days a week” said ABAC’s Assistant Chief of Police Chris Stephens. “The largest complaint we get is parking.”
“We don’t want this to be a hindrance to students any students. We want this to be beneficial to them,” said Kinsey. Any complaints, concerns or questions about premiere parking can be directed to Kinsey at ckinsey@abac.edu.
Stephens also clarified on the issues surrounding the Faculty and Staff Parking lot.
Students can park in that parking lot between the hours of 8 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. “It’s on them to move by 7:30 a.m. or they will be subject to a ticket,” said Stephens.
According to an email from ABAC Vice President John Clemmens, “Except for parking spaces marked otherwise, all parking in the north and south parking lots are for students only.”
Employees are only allowed to park in the lot between the Donaldson Dining Hall and the library, behind the Health Sciences Building, and in the lot in front of Weltner Hall.
The new parking spaces on the front of campus are designated for handicap and visitors only. Campus Police will continue to use several spaces in front of Weltner Hall until they relocate to Evans Hall.
The police will move to their new quarters once rennovations to Evans Hall are completed. Evans previously housed the campus business offices, which are now located in Herring Hall.
