Principles of Biology I Laboratory (BIOL = 2107L-7/CRN=20 30560)

Acknowledging the = fact that=20 exposure to any mass of knowledge is prerequisite to learning that = knowledge,=20 regular attendance is required for successful completion of the = course=20 requirements. Instruction = and=20 information within the classroom is unique and is generally difficult to = obtain=20 and/or unavailable outside of the classroom in original form.

Therefore, regular = attendance=20 will ensure that students receive the most appropriate instruction and = timely=20 information regarding any course modifications, announcements, etc. It is the student=92s = responsibility to=20 contact the instructor prior to any anticipated absence or immediately = after = an=20 unanticipated one (during the next regularly scheduled class which the = student=20 attends). The = instructor will=20 read the class roll or circulate a sign-in sheet at the beginning of = class. Any student arriving after the = class=20 roll has been recorded will be marked absent. In addition, any student who = misses more=20 than one laboratory session may receive a final class grade of = =93F.=94 Students who miss more than = one=20 laboratory session may withdraw from the class without penalty prior to = the drop=20 without penalty date (March 2, = 2011).

IV. =20 Withdrawals/Dropping Class

The last day that a student may withdraw from a = course=20 without penalty is March 2, = 2011. After this = date, a=20 student withdrawing from class will receive a WF. Any student who does not = officially=20 withdraw from class will receive a final course grade of =93F.=94 Please refer to the current = online=20 Abraham Baldwin College Catalog for specific details concerning the = policy on=20 withdrawing from a course.

V. =20 Academic Dishonesty

The=20 College-wide policy regarding academic dishonesty is described in the = current=20 online Abraham Baldwin College Catalog . For purposes of this course, a = zero-tolerance policy regarding all forms of academic dishonesty will be = strictly followed.

VI. =20 Grading

In=20 accordance with the professional judgment of the instructor, the = following point=20 system will be used to determine the final laboratory=20 grade:

Notes:

In=20 the event that a student=92s final laboratory percentage is close to but = falls=20 short of the next highest grade category, the instructor will consider = such=20 factors as class and/or laboratory attendance, class and/or laboratory=20 preparation and participation, satisfactory completion of all laboratory = exercises, etc. in determining the final =20 laboratory grade. = A=20 student=92s final letter grade will only be elevated if his or her final = laboratory percentage is within one point of the next highest grade=20 category.

Laboratory make-up = examinations and/or quizzes will not be given. Any student who misses an = examination or=20 quiz should notify the instructor prior to or at the beginning of the = next=20 regularly scheduled class or laboratory which he or she attends. If the student has an = appropriate reason=20 for missing the laboratory midterm examination, then he or she will be = allowed=20 to substitute the combined average percentage score for the quizzes and = the=20 final examination for the missed examination. If the student has an = appropriate reason=20 for missing a quiz, then the average percentage score for all quizzes = will be=20 substituted for the missing quiz score. =20 The final laboratory examination must be taken by each student in = order=20 to receive full credit for the course. =20 No make-up final laboratory examinations will be given and no=20 substitution of points will be permitted. =20 Substitution will only be allowed for one quiz or for the=20 midterm.
