Philosophy of Education
Who are you? Why do you want to teach? What should schools truly be like? These are questions that I am sure you have considered in this class.
Your assignment:
Write at least a 1.5 page philosophy of education statement. I recommend writing one-two paragraphs per question. Your statement must include:
1. What type of philosophy do you hold? (Ex: Essentialist, Social Reconstructionist, Perennialist, Existentialist, or Progressive). Explain this philosophy and explain why it fits you. Also, in light of this philosophy, explain what school should be like.
2. After completing the in-class box presentation, you learned that you are quite different than your classmates. How will you reach diverse student populations? (think about various types of diversity)
3. Explore your core values and reflect on how your values influence your beliefs about “good” teaching.
4. Why do you want to teach?
5. You must have an introductory paragraph and conclusion. These paragraphs should be separate from the above-mentioned questions.
Statement must be single-spaced with 1 inch margins. You must use Times New Roman 12 point font. The paper must be in sentence/paragraph form. This paper has a three page limit.
