Spring 2007 Staff Forum

Wednesday, March 28, 2007.

Carlton Center

 

Welcome and Invocation – Ms. Olga Contreras-Martinez, Chair, called the meeting to order at 3:00 PM in the Carlton Center Room 126. Ms. Elizabeth Wilcox, Student Life Housing Coordinator, gave the invocation.

 

Guest Speaker – Vice-President of Fiscal Affairs, John Clemens

Mr. John Clemens, VPFA began his new position at ABAC January 1, 2007. Mr. Clemens discussed that President Bridges is working on additional funding for the college. Three buildings in the front of the college are in need of repair. Tift Hall will be vacated which will create a need to have a temporary “welcome” building.

Mr. Clemens talked about the new budget process. A new on-line system will be needed when changes are made. ABAC is under a “Hiring Chill” The division chairs will need to justify why the positions are needed.

Mr. Clemens wants the Staff Forum to be more proactive in the decision making process. He stated that the Classified Staff are very important in the decision-making at ABAC and is what it takes to make this institution run.

 

 

Approval of Minutes

Minutes from the Staff Forum meeting, January 24, 2007, were distributed and reviewed Bam Pirkle made motion to accept the minutes. Nancy Anthony seconded the motion. The motion was carried. The minutes will be filed as written.

 

Staff Forum Account Update – The Project Activity Report was distributed, reviewed and discussed.

 

Old Business

  1. Valentine’s Fundraiser –The Valentine’s Fundraiser raised $897.24. The committee was recognized: Julie Boland, Teri Mathis, Bam Pirkle, Tracy Dyal, and Trina Jones.
  2. Tom Turkey last minute contribution was noted - $39.00. Ms. Trina Jones was out due to sickness during Tom Turkey. She donated a cake after her return which sold for $39.00.
  3. Committee for Staff Award for Excellence & Student Scholarship. The following staff members are members of the Committee for Staff Award for Excellence & Student Scholarship. Kim Ascani, Emily Cheek, Beverly Clark, Brenda Graham, Ernest Kelly, Teresa Williams and Vickie Wilson.

 

 

New Business

  1. Fundraiser ideas for summer (Staff Picnic Day) – Olga asked the staff for ideas for a summer fundraiser. She suggested a Staff Picnic Day.
  2. New officers will preside at the next meeting on July 18, 2007. The incoming officers for 2007 – 2009 are as follows:

Judy Perry, Secretary

Chris Kinsey, Parliamentarian

Adjournment & Refreshments– The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 PM. Refreshments provided by volunteers were served.
