FALL 2007 Staff Forum

October 3, 2007.

Health Science Building Room 237

 

 

Welcome and Invocation -  Ms. Brenda Doss, Chair, called the meeting to order at 3:00 PM in the Health Science Building room 237.  Mr. Chris Kinsey, Staff Forum Parliamentarian, gave the invocation.

 

Guest Speaker – Dr. David Bridges

Updates and announcements by Dr. Bridges:

1.                  He apologized for not following through with a promise made at the July meeting to have letters sent to all employees informing them of their raise amount.  He stated that next year would be different and all employees would receive this letter.

2.                  Announced that the budget cycle for FY2009 begins on Friday, October 5th.  He received a letter asking for our response to be taken to the BOR hearings.  Two items of importance are (1) Salary competitiveness and misalignment with labor statistics and (2) Significant rise in health care benefits.

3.                  Stated that we had a great start to Fall semester with record enrollment despite the fact that the economy is not great and with the change in HOPE eligibility.

 

This was followed by a question and answer session.

 

New Personnel and Changes:

 

New Personnel:

Vicki Martin -Student Life & Housing/Accountant; Chris Maurer –Student Life & Housing /Coordinator of Residence Life; GayeAnn Hodge– Business Office/Accounting Assistant; Catherine Cronin - Student Success Office/Compass Testing Specialist; Melody Tillman and Jacob Horsley –Public Safety/Police Officers.

 

 

Approval of Minutes

Minutes from the September 5, 2007 Staff Forum meeting were distributed and reviewed.  The minutes were approved (J Boland, T Williams) and will be filed as written.

 

Old Business

  1. Account Balances were given.  The Endowment account has a balance of                $14,876.00 and the Expendable account has a balance of $2,868.00.
  2. Tom Turkey items to be auctioned can be donated up to the day before the auction starts.  Dates will be from noon on November 14th – noon on November 16th.
  3. Brenda Doss and Nancy Anthony will leave tomorrow for the Staff Council Conference at Southern Polytechnic State University.  ABAC items donated for the door prize at the conference should be turned in to Brenda or Nancy. 

 

New Business

  1. Valentine Fund raiser committee volunteers:  Tonia Carpenter, Tracy Dyal, Amy Willis, Nancy Anthony, and Vicki Martin.  Julie Boland said a list from the prior year of do’s and don’ts was done by the committee and might be helpful.  A suggestion was made to offer pre-orders for baked goods. More volunteers will be needed on Valentine’s Day to work the tables and deliver balloons.[b1] 
  2. A suggestion was made to do an Easter fund raiser in the future.

                             

 

Announcements

Boss Appreciation Day will be on October 17th in the Magnolia Room with guest speaker Ronald Goodman, sponsored by Tiftarea Chaper of IAAP.[b2] 

 

 

Adjournment & Refreshments -  The meeting was adjourned at 4:25 P.M and refreshments were served..  Refreshments were provided by Nancy Brannen, Van McGriff, Melissa Willis, Judy Perry, Bobbie Baldree, Julie Boland, and Amy Willis.
