MINUTES SUMMER STAFF FORUM

June 30, 2004

 

Philip Hightower, Chair, called the meeting to order and Amy Willis gave the invocation.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

·        Mr. Hightower gave a special thanks to those volunteering to provide refreshments:  Olga Contreras, Judy Perry, Nancy Brannen, Vicki Wilson, Phil Hightower, Bam Pirkle, Amy Willis, and Sandra Grimsley

·        Refreshment volunteers were requested to sign up for the Fall Meeting.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

The Spring 2004 minutes were approved.  A motion to accept was made, seconded and passed.

 

INTRODUCTION OF NEW PERSONNEL

Mr. Hightower read the names of new staff members who have joined ABAC since spring. Any in attendance were asked to stand.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

·        The winner of the Roy Jackson Award was announced as Duane Weeks for those that missed Honors Day.

·        The winner of the Staff Forum Scholarship was announced as Eve Felton. A letter from Ms. Felton thanking the Staff Forum for the scholarship was read.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

·        The bank balance from Ms. Bobbie Baldree was $12,921.14 as of 5/31/04

·        Payroll Deduction Forms were made available for anyone interested in donating.

·        Persons with items for the “Staff Matters” newsletter were encouraged to make submissions to Ellen Resta.

·        A discussion was held on the current use of the funds. The possibility of providing a second scholarship and reviving the Semester Staff Award was raised. Mr. Hightower stated that a successful Spring Fundraiser would be needed in addition to the Fall Tom Turkey Fundraiser before more money would be spent.

·        Fundraising Ideas –The decision was made to discuss the Tom Turkey Fundraiser and a spring fundraiser at the Fall Meeting.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

·        Troy Spicer with the Division of Nursing and Health Services informed the Staff Forum of procedures to follow during an emergency at ABAC. Many questions on the subject were answered by Mr. Spicer. Mr. Spicer agreed to do a write up of his talk for the “Staff Matters” newsletter.

·        Olga Contreras led the staff in an event called “Surplus-Yard Wars”. The event encouraged teamwork and provided stress relief for those in attendance.

         

 

The meeting was adjourned and members enjoyed delicious

refreshments served by volunteers of the Staff Forum.
