Assistant Superintendent, The Club at Rawls Creek, Columbia, SC

The Club at Rawls Creek is an 18-hole semi-private facility that is 6,200-yards long. Greens are Mini-Verde Bermuda, tees are 419 and the fairways are common Bermuda. This is an older course with a great location that is undergoing a renovation. Ten holes are open for play and the other 8 are scheduled to open in September 2008. This position is a great opportunity for gaining experience with course construction, a grow-in, and with on-going maintenance. This position will become the Superintendent once the course is completely open in September. Job responsibilities will include managing a staff of up to 10, fertilizer and chemical applications, irrigation repair, and renovation project work as required. Benefits include 10 days of annual vacation after 6 months, 5 days of sick leave, and paid membership dues for professional organizations. The qualified applicant should be a self starter that can multitask, have a SC Pesticide Applicators License or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire, a minimum of 3 years experience in golf course maintenance, and prefer Assistant or 2nd Assistant. The Highland Course @ Primland is an 18-hole resort course. Primland sits on 12,000 acres and offers golfing, sporting clays, hunting, fishing, ATV and horseback rides. The Highland Course has L93 tees and fairways, A4 greens, and a mix of fine fescues in the rough. We estimate about 4000 rounds for the 2008 golfing season. Our golf season is from May through the end of October. Applicant needs to have an Associates or Bachelors Degree in Turf Management and be able to obtain a Virginia pesticide license within three months of hire. The spray technician's duties consist of pesticide and fertilizer applications, watering, and crew leader. This position is a great step in becoming an assistant superintendent.
