Note Taker Registration Instructions

As a note taker you are considered an employee of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and you must complete the online employee orientation unless you are or have been employed by ABAC or have been a note taker before and have completed the process. Please call the Student Development Center at 229-391-5135 for instructions.

As an employee of the Student Development Center you must maintain confidentiality about the student(s) for whom you are taking notes.

There are two things you have to do:

1. Visit the Human Resources Right-To-Know Training at:

http://www.usg.edu/ehs/training/rtkbasic/

Review all ABAC policies and print the required certificate upon completion of the training. If you have any problems with the online orientation, please contact the Office of Human Resources at 229-391-4888.

The following information is important for accurate completion of the orientation.

-    Note takers are non-benefit employees

-    Your department is the Student Development Center

Return all completed forms to The Student Development Center. You must present a valid Driver’s License and Social Security Card. If you do not have a SS card only a Birth Certificate or Passport will suffice.

2.   You must know the name of the student you are taking notes for (if the student chooses to self disclose), the name/number of the course and the instructor to register for payment. Payment will be mailed to the note taker at the end of the semester after the course instructor verifies you have met the requirements as a note taker. Please make sure the Student Development Center has your current mailing address.

Mandatory: Requirements that must be met in order to be paid as a note taker:

1.      You must attend every class session. Notes must be thorough, accurate and legible. If you have any questions please have the instructor review your notes. If you must miss a class session, it is your responsibility to arrange ahead of time for another person to take notes and leave the notes in the designated location or give to the student with whom you are working. It is your responsibility to locate another excellent student in the course (you may consult the instructor) and obtain contact information from the temporary note taker for yourself and the Student Development Center staff (landline #, cell phone #, email address, etc).

2.      You may not miss more than a certain number of classes or you will not be paid even if you worked the whole semester. The following is the rule:

MWF 50 minute classes (eg, 8:00-8:50 AM) – 3 classes

TR 90 minute classes (eg, 9:30-10:45 AM) – 2 classes

Labs 90 minute classes (eg, 6:00-9:00 PM) –1 lab

Evening classes 90 minutes (eg, MW 6PM-7:15PM) – 2 classes

Evening classes 150 minutes (T 6:00-8:30 PM) – 1 class session

3.      If, due to documented medical reasons or medical emergencies (for example, you become seriously ill and must miss your own scheduled classes) you cannot fulfill your note taking responsibility for the rest of a semester or a portion of a semester, your pay will be prorated.

4.   You must provide a copy of the notes to the student immediately. If you have another class after the class for which you took notes, simply make arrangements with the student when and where the notes can be picked up at the students convenience, as he/she may also have another class scheduled. Copies can be made in Division offices and a pick-up location can be arranged. Also, copies can be made in the Student Development Center and left for the student with the Senior Administrative Assistant. Please write the student’s name, the course and date on the notes.

5.  It is the responsibility of the student needing notes to communicate to the note taker and the Student Development Center if any of these rules have not been followed.

I agree to follow all of the policies and regulations documented above in order to serve as, and be paid as, a note taker. I understand if I fulfill all of these requirements, I will be paid $_________ at the end of the semester.
