Nicaragua Program

During Summer 2011 Semester, 11 ABAC students will participate in a global studies program to Nicaragua. This program is the only global studies program highlighting Nicaragua in the University System of Georgia this year. The 3-credit hour program which emphasizes health care and rural development runs from July 30th until August 9th. Students will spend the majority of the time in Nicaragua in the city of Esteli in the foothills of the Segovias Mountains. Highlights of the program will include guided excursions to mountain clinics, organic food cooperatives, and nutrition, permaculture, and related development projects. The program will include stays in the historic colonial city of Granada on Lake Nicaragua with a day trip to the active volcano, Masaya. The academic program will include selected readings, experiential learning, and reflective writing assignments. The group will meet several times over the summer to prepare for the program.
