How to Calculate a GPA
GPA is calculated using the following computation:
Total
Quality Points Earned divided by the Total Number of
Hours Attempted
Each Grade has a Quality Point assigned (Grades of W, I, or IP are not used when calculating GPA)

B = 3
C = 2
D = 1
F = 0
WF = 0
STEP 1 –
DETERMINE QUALITY POINTS FOR EACH CLASS
The quality points earned in a particular class are determined by:
Hours Credit multiplied by Grade Quality
Points
Ex 1 : C in ENGL 1101 (3
credit hr class)
3 hrs X 2 pts (C) = 6 quality pts
Ex 2: B in PHED 1106 (1 credit hr class)
1 hr X 3 pts (B) = 3 quality pts
STEP 2 –
CALCULATE GPA
Divide Total Quality Points earned by
Total Number of Hours Attempted

Term): ENGL 1101 – B: 3
hrs X 3 pts = 9 quality pts
MATH 1111 – C: 3 hrs X 2 pts = 6 quality pts
HIST 2112 – D: 3 hrs X 1 pt = 3 quality pts
ABAC 1000 – A: 1 hr X 4 pts = 4 quality pts
PHED 1100 – A: 2 hrs X 4 pts =
8 quality pts
TOTALS = 12 hrs 30 pts
30 pts/12 hrs = 2.5 GPA
