ABAC sophomore Ryan Reese met Fox News Washington D.C. Managing Editor Brit Hume at the Republican Convention

Fitzgerald Student Enjoys Life in the Limelight at Republican Convention

TIFTON-Like many Americans, Ryan Reese will be glued to his television set on Nov. 4 to find out who will be the next President of the United States.

Unlike many Americans, the sophomore at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will have a special insight into the life of the reporters who bring the election results.

The 20-year-old son of Dr. R.V. and Wanda Reese of Fitzgerald got an up close and personal view of the news process when he was a Fox News intern at the Republican National Convention this year.

"I really enjoyed the entire convention experience," Reese said.  "I got to talk with Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson.  They are really down to earth people.

One of Reese's professors, Dr. Luke Vassiliou, gave him the information on the internship earlier this year, and he jumped at the possibility.

"I'm a lifelong Republican," the president of the College Republicans at ABAC said.  "It has been instilled in me from my father, who is a devout Republican.

Majoring in law and political science at ABAC, Reese wants to become a lawyer and enter state politics one day.

"The convention gave me some hands-on experience with the political process," Reese said.  "I also learned that you'll be surprised when you meet some people that they are not always as they appear on television."

Reese never met John McCain or Sarah Palin but he did meet several television news types such as Brit Hume and Bill O'Reilly.

Reese has enjoyed his ABAC career by focusing on many different activities including some time as vice president for public relations for the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and as a disc jockey for the ABAC radio station, WPLH.

"I like ABAC a lot," Reese said.  "My brother and my dad came here too.

Reese said there's no doubt which presidential candidate the family is pulling for on Nov. 4.
