Katrina Duncan Marshalleck Named To All-Region 17 First Team

TIFTON—A freshman from London, England cemented her name in the athletics’ record books at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College this week when she became the first player in ABAC soccer history to be named a National Junior College Athletic Association Region 17 first team member.

Katrina Duncan Marshalleck scored an all time record 26goals and recorded 12 assists this season to lead the Fillies to a 13-6 overall record and a first round state playoff berth. She was named a first teams election, and Blake Lewis from ABAC was named to the second team. Lewis is a sophomore defender from Baxley.

Fillies Coach Jimmy Ballenger said he recruited Duncan Marshalleck without ever seeing her play, even on videotape.

“I took a chance,” Ballenger said. “I knew she was playing at a decent level, and I recruited her based on are commendation.”

Ballenger said the first year player far exceeded his expectations.

“I need more players like Katrina,” Ballenger said. “She’s a great player with a great attitude. She has great ball handling skills. She is very thin and needs to get a little more muscle on her.”

Ballenger said Lewis graduated from Appling County High School where there was no soccer team. She tried out for football but didn’t get the necessary eligibility forms in time when she transferred in from New Mexico.

“Blake was one of our better defenders,” Ballenger said. “She really stepped it up defensively for us. I have received a few calls on her from other colleges so I think she’ll be playing somewhere next year
