ABAC Concert Choir & Concert Band in Two Concerts

TIFTON--The Concert Choir and the Concert Band at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will be featured in two different concerts on Nov. 18 and Nov. 20 in Howard Auditorium on the ABAC campus.

The Concert Choir will perform on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m., and the Concert Band will perform on Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Both concerts are open to the public at no charge.

The Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Susan Roe, will perform a variety of choral music. The choir now has more than 70 members. It is made up of students from high school music programs from all over the southeastern region of the United States.

The choir’s selections for the evening will begin with The Star Spangled Banner, followed by For the Beauty of the Earth, and All Things Bright and Beautiful.

The next piece, Instrument of Peace, will be sung by the tenors and basses of the concert choir, followed by the sopranos and altos singing Weep No More.

The Chamber Singers will perform the spiritual KeepYour Lamps Trimmed and Burning and Still Still Still, followed by the ABAC Jazz Choir who will perform Embraceable You and A Christmas Jazz Trio. The evening will conclude with Carol of the Bells and There is A Season sung by the entire Concert Choir.

The Concert Band, under the direction of Woody Leonard, will feature over 80students who will perform a variety of concert band literature in conjunction with two special guests

The Star Spangled Banner will open the evening followed by a transcription for band of Military Polonaise. Ride will be next on the program. Its fast-paced tempos, modern harmonies, and numerous percussion contributions will provide a wonderful contrast to the more stately Polonaise.

The ABAC Percussion Ensemble will then take the stage with a composition entitled Run. Frank Butenschon, former director of the nationally known Valdosta High SchoolMarchin' Cats”, will serve as guest conductor as the band performs Karl King’s Carrollton March.

The evening will end on an exciting note as Kenyon Carter, a former ABAC student and well known Atlanta jazz artist, will perform as tenor sax soloist on Is There Anything Still There? Caribbean Hideaway, a fun calypso-style encore by James Barnes, will close the program.
