TWELVE Top Academic Students Choose ABAC

TIFTONTwelve of the top honor graduates at area high schools including three valedictorians and three salutatorians have been selected as ABAC Foundation Scholars and will receive full tuition scholarships when they enroll at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for the fall semester.

The ABAC Foundation makes available on an annual basis full tuition scholarships to three of the top five graduates from high schools in Tift County, Colquitt County, Worth County, Cook County, Turner County, Fitzgerald, Irwin County, Berrien County, and Tiftarea Academy.

Three valedictorians accepted the scholarship offer for the 2008-09 academic year including Alyssa Simmons from Cook High School, Greg Bowen, Jr., from Fitzgerald High School, and Jessica Padgett from Worth County High School.

The three salutatorians accepting the scholarships were Stephen M. Tyus from Colquitt County High School, Amanda Simons from Fitzgerald, and Megan Marshall from Worth County.

Third honor graduates accepting the scholarships were Lora Ann Nichols from Berrien High School, Brant Sandifer from Tift County High School, and Lauren Monk from Tiftarea Academy.

Receiving the scholarships as fourth honor graduates were Andrew Kicklighter from Tiftarea Academy and Mitchell Potts from Worth County.  Marley Myers will receive the scholarship as the fifth highest academic student from Turner County High School.

“Students of this academic caliber could choose to go to a variety of different colleges,” ABAC President David Bridges said.  “For them to select ABAC is just another reason why we are fast becoming Georgia’s State College of choice.”

Betty McCorvey from the ABAC College Advancement Office said the scholarships are funded from proceeds from the Dollars for ABAC Scholars event.  She said that annual fundraising event for the college has been moved to the fall this year from its usual spring date.
