Top Cook
High school Grad Chooses ABAC
TIFTON —The top
graduate from
Valedictorian Alyssa Simmons will receive the scholarship which covers all tuition and fees for two semesters.
The ABAC Foundation makes available on an annual basis full tuition scholarships to three of the top five graduates from high schools in Tift County, Colquitt County, Worth County, Cook County, Turner County, Fitzgerald, Irwin County, Berrien County, and Tiftarea Academy.
“Students
of this academic caliber could choose to go to a variety of different
colleges,” ABAC President David Bridges said. “For them to select ABAC is
just another reason why we are fast becoming
Betty McCorvey from the ABAC College Advancement Office said the scholarships are funded from proceeds from the Dollars for ABAC Scholars event. She said that annual fundraising event for the college has been moved to the fall this year from its usual spring date.
Simmons maintained the highest GPA throughout her high school career. She won the Woodmen of the World History award, Georgia Certificate of Merit, and the Principal’s Leadership award. Simmons was also the captain of the varsity softball team, Beta Club President, Anchor Club Director, Cook Student Leadership team mentor, and a member of the Y-Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a College and Career church group.
The application deadline for the fall semester at ABAC is Aug. 5. Classes begin Aug. 18.
