ABAC TO AWARD $500 AT OPEN CAMPUS DAY FEBRUARY 7

TIFTON - A $500 tuition grant will be awarded to a high school senior who takes part in the Stallion Days event on Feb. 7 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The grant will be given away at 12:15 p.m. in Howard Auditorium. The student must be present to win.

Registration for the winter open campus day begins at 9 a.m. in Gressette Gym.  Prospective students are not required to pre-register but can sign up ahead of time at www.abac.edu/stalliondays.

“Open Campus Day gives students time to talk with professors, look at displays, and talk to student leaders,” said Ali Csinos, Coordinator of Student Recruitment. “We hope to have over 1,200 prospective students on the campus.”

Prospective students can visit information tables focusing on majors ranging from nursing to business.  They can also take a look at the two new four-year degree programs in diversified agriculture and turfgrass and golf course management.

Personnel from admissions, housing, and financial aid will be on hand to answer questions from students and their parents.  Student clubs from all over campus will also have displays in the gym.

“Students can turn in or pick up any papers such as financial aid forms at this time as well,” said Csinos. “We moved the date of the Stallion Day up so students attending this event will be able to meet any scholarship deadlines, as well as be able to attend Early Bird registration.”

Csinos said the ABAC scholarship deadline is March 1.  That is also the deadline for students who wish to attend the Early Bird registration, allowing them to register before other freshmen for the 2008 fall semester.

The ABAC Ambassadors will give walking and bus tours of the 421-acre campus from 9-11:45 a.m. . Students will also have an opportunity to get a special souvenir sponsored by the Campus Activities Board from 10 – 11:45 a.m. on the Pedestrian Mall in front of the Carlton Center.  The Thundering Herd pep band will play in Howard Auditorium from 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

For students who plan to live on campus, one of the highlights of the day will be a tour of the brand new $17 million ABAC Lakeside housing complex.  Almost 500 students live in the ultra modern facility, which is located on the north shore of Lake Baldwin.

“Even if prospective students have already attended the Fall Open Campus Day, it will be beneficial to come on February 7 to see ABAC in full swing,” Csinos said.  “It’s also a great time to meet prospective roommates if students plan to live on the campus.”

Csinos said if students and their parents wish to stay for lunch in the Donaldson Dining Hall, the cost will be $5.50 per person this year.

For more information about Open Campus Day, prospective students can call 800-733-3653 or visit the ABAC web site at www.abac.edu.  Prospective students can also register online at www.abac.edu/stalliondays.
