EIGHTEEN GRADUATE FROM ABAC POLICE ACADEMY

TIFTON—Eighteen individuals from the South Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 229th session of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) Regional Police Academy at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Academy Director Marty Smith said the Overall Achievement award for the session was awarded to Dwayne S. Boutwell of Brooks County Sheriff’s Office. Boutwell also tied for second place in Academics with Justin T. Jones of the Middle Georgia College Department of Public Safety for the session. First place in Academic Achievement was awarded to Joseph B. Caruso of Macon, sponsored by the GPSTC. Caruso also served as president for the 229th session.  First place in Firearm was received by Matthew E. Keown of the Thomasville Police Department. Second place in Firearms was awarded to Roy T. Stubbs, Jr., of the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office.

Other graduates included Lisa K. Collins and William A. Ryder of the ABAC Police Department; Jeffrey A. Sandiford and Herman H. Taylor of the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office; Cory C. Caves of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office; Daryl F. Long of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office; Charoski R. Smith of the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office; and Michael L. Brewer of Lumber City, sponsored by the GPSTC.

Other graduates included Alan M. Cooper of the Meigs Police Department;  Cameron E. Handley and Michael W. Talbott of the Middle Georgia College Department of Public Safety; Richard L. Kilby of Parrott, sponsored by the GPSTC; and Stanley C. Tabor of Seville, sponsored by the GPSTC.

The Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the Division of Social Science at ABAC.
