MCKINNEY RECEIVES SASSER AWARD AT ABAC HOMECOMING

TIFTON - Sandra Flynt McKinney of Cordele received the Helen Brown Sasser award at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s 2008 Homecoming celebration.

McKinney received her Associate of Science degree in 1974 and continued her education after ABAC, earning Bachelors and Masters degrees at The University of Georgia.  McKinney now serves as Crisp County Extension Coordinator.

With her leadership, Crisp County 4-H was one of five groups internationally to receive the Albert Schweitzer International Youth Group of the Year Award for their environmental work in waste management, beautification and education.

When she was notified of her award, she said, “I have been extremely blessed with both a great family and a successful and meaningful career.  ABAC had a tremendous influence in both of these areas. My home economics classes at ABAC gave me foundational skills to manage my home well and to be successful as a home economics teacher and County Extension Agent. ”

She and her husband, Lonnie, teach a ten week Biblical Financial Management class to young couples and singles. Their oldest son is working on his PhD in Higher Education from the University of Florida, their middle son is a new County Extension Ag Agent in Grady County, and their youngest, who attended ABAC, will graduate from Georgia Southern with an Information Technology degree this summer.
