BROOKS NAMED OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR AT ABAC
HOMECOMING
TIFTON – Dorsey Brooks of Hocshton was named Outstanding Educator at the Alumni Awards Luncheon at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 2008 Homecoming celebration.
Brooks attended ABAC from 1936 to 1939 majoring in Education and Vocational Agriculture. As an ABAC basketball player he was part of the State Championship team during the 1936-1937 season.
He continued his education at The University of Georgia, where he also played basketball. He started teaching agriculture in 1941, and then served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946.
After his discharge, he continued his
teaching, coaching and school administration career until his retirement in
1976. He has been a blessing to hundreds
of young people over the years as he guided and directed the paths of many
That work continues today, as he as been instrumental in initiating a program at Jefferson Middle School – The JMS Reward Program, which offers at risk students incentives for improving their standardized test scores.
Brooks
contributes to his community through the Rotary Club, Lions Club and in many
