BIO-FUELS PROGRAM AT ABAC ON MAY 7

TIFTON –A community education program on bio-fuels and their effect on rising gas prices will be a key topic at a program on May 7 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.  Open to anyone who would like to attend at no charge, the information session begins with dinner at 7 p.m. in Room 139 of the Ag Sciences Building.

 Participants in the event will learn more about bio-diesel and ethanol as well as how the emerging bio-fuels industry will affect the South Georgia economy.  Other topics to be discussed will include how bio-fuels could impact the national security picture and the environment.
 ABAC received $102,500 in funding from the University System of Georgia Intellectual Capital Partnership Program (ICAPP) to provide education and workforce needs for the bioenergy industry in Georgia.  Public Service and Business Outreach Director Diane Kilgore said the college has partnered with the Agriculture Innovation Center, the University of Georgia Tifton Campus and First United Ethanol LLC in Camilla. 

ABAC Agriculture and Forest Resources Division Chair Tim Marshall believes Georgia will play a key role in the future of biofuels.

“Georgia is developing as a leader in the production of renewable biofuels, and our farm and forest lands also provide the raw resources to feed technology that will refine biodiesel and ethanol,” Marshall said.
