ABAC SELECTS NEW HONORS PROGRAM STUDENTS
TIFTON
- Twenty-two freshman students have been selected for membership in the Honors
Program at
Membership in the program is gained through high school academic standing, SAT or ACT scores, and an invitation from Dr. Luke Vassiliou, the Honors Program Director who is a faculty member in the Division of Humanities. The minimum required SAT score is 1100 for the combined Math and Verbal portions of the test. The fall 2007 incoming class has an average combined Math and Verbal score of 1209 (588 Math score average and 621 Verbal score average).
The goal of the ABAC Honors Program is to provide a more meaningful college career for academically talented students and to prepare them to undertake junior and senior level work. Honors program students present their research in state, regional, and national conferences.
In the last year ABAC Honors program students were awarded college scholarships such as the George P. Donaldson Award, corporate scholarships such as the Coca Cola scholarship, and National Scholarships such as the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.
New Honors Program students include Zachary Abell, a psychology major from Enigma; Kasey Beck, a pre-medicine major from Jackson; Cristel Bender, a pre-veterinary medicine major from McDonough; Kenneth Bragg, a golf course management major from Peachtree City; Justin Byers, a history major from Tifton; Karissa Carpenter, a pre-veterinary medicine major from Woodstock; Jonathan Cassiday, a horticulture major from Loganville; Shiree Dominy, a physical therapy major from Tifton; Evan Durkovic, a pre-law major from Fitzgerald; Randy Hughes, an information technology major from Fitzgerald; Jake Jones, a business administration major from Chula; and Kaitlyn Martin, a pre-pharmacy major from Cuthbert.
Other students in
the Honors program include Hayden Milliron, a computer science major from Shellman; Hector Olguin, an engineering major from Tifton; Rachel Pridgen,
an engineering major from Ocilla; Ryan
Reese, a political science major from Fitzgerald; Jessica Register, a psychology major from Moultrie; Angela Riveiro,
a biology major from Sylvester; Caleb
Smith, a business administration major from Tifton; Stephanie Stovall, an English major from Sandersville; Samantha Tankersley, an advertising
major from Tifton; and Allison Tucker,
a pre-medicine major from Ocilla.
Students
already at ABAC can join the Honors program if they have the nomination of an
ABAC faculty member and at least a 3.2 GPA. For additional information
