REDDICK SELECTED AS ABAC ACADEMIC VICE PRESIDENT

TIFTON—Dr. Niles M. Reddick will take over the duties of the Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on July 1.

Reddick now serves as the Dean of Humanities and Social Science at Motlow State (Tenn.) Community College.  He will replace Dr. Caroline Helms, who is retiring on June 30.

“Dr. Reddick brings a solid academic background and credentials to the position,” ABAC President David Bridges said.  “I believe his new ideas will bring energy, creativity, and enthusiasm to our college’s chief academic post.”

Reddick’s career at the Lynchburg, Tenn., campus of Motlow State began in 1994 as an English instructor.  He later served as interim director and then director of the Motlow State Smyrna campus before assuming his present position in 2004.

Prior to joining Motlow State, Reddick taught at Georgia Military College and Thomas University.  He also served as an academic advisor at Florida State University.

A native of Valdosta, Reddick received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Valdosta State University, his master’s degree in psychology from the University of West Georgia, and his doctorate degree in humanities from Florida State University.

“ABAC has a wonderful reputation,” Reddick said.  “The campus has a lot going for it right now, and I just feel very honored to be selected for the position.  I’m looking forward to returning to south Georgia.”

Reddick has quite a list of publications to his credit and completed his first book in 2006 titled “Road Kill Art and Other Oddities.”  The collection of humorous essays has received many positive reviews, and comedian Steve Martin has even received a copy of it.

“I’m hoping that he calls and tells me he wants to turn one of the stories into his next movie,” Reddick said with a laugh.

Reddick’s next piece of writing will be a novel on a more serious note but it does rely on humor to get the point across.

Reddick and his wife, Michelle, who is from Thomasville, plan to move in June with their children, Audrey, 4, and Nicholas, 2.
