“The older you get, the more you appreciate something like this,” Kramer, 37, said. “To receive an honor like this is really special. The players are the ones who really make it possible.”

“We have only one player on this team that played in this national tournament last year,” Kramer said. “This is a team that started with seven straight losses and now here they are with a chance to finish in the top ten in the country. That says a lot about the type of individuals they are.”
The Fillies wound up with a 15-10 record and won the NJCAA Region XVII tournament for the 14th straight time. Kramer was named Region XVII Coach of the Year. He has coached the women’s team at ABAC nine of the past 14 years and has been head coach of the men’s team for the last seven years. For the past two seasons, he has coached both the Fillies and Stallions.
Kramer guided the women’s team to a second place finish in the national tournament in 1999. In 2002 and 2003, the Stallions wound up second in the nation. ABAC has won two national men’s championships in 1984 and 1999, both under the leadership of longtime head coach Norman “Red” Hill.
Kramer was honored by the NJCAA last season with the Herschel Stephens Coaching Award. This award is presented in recognition of service and dedication to the NJCAA Coaches Association. Coaches can receive it only once in their careers.
