AMY GRANT KICKS OFF TOUR IN TIFTON ON JUNE 15

TIFTON-- Six-time Grammy Award winner Amy Grant has decided to limit her stage appearances to only 27 concerts this year.  Fortunately for her many fans in south Georgia, the opening night of her tour will be at the 36th annual Dollars For ABAC Scholars on June 15 in the annual fundraiser for the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Foundation.

Grant, a native of Augusta, chose to make ABAC her first concert this season.  It is also one of only 10 performances in which she is the sole performer.  ABAC Assistant Director of Development Betty McCorvey said Grant’s road crew even turned down contractual complimentary tickets because the show is a benefit for ABAC student scholarships.

Grant has been in the music industry since the age of 17. She began her career in contemporary Christian music before crossing over into the pop category in 1991 with “Baby, Baby”.  She has won 26 Dove Awards, including four for Artist of the Year. She has been nominated for 11 Grammy Awards and walked away with six trophies, making her one of the most accomplished and recognized talents to ever perform on the Dollars for ABAC Scholars stage.

She has sold over 25 million albums, achieving everything from gold to quintuple platinum status on 13 albums which contained 12 top ten single hits.  Most recently, Grant has been recognized for the Top Inspirational Album of 2006, Rock of Ages...Hymns & Faith, and for the Best Long Term Music Video in 2007, Time Again...Amy Grant.

Grant’s 30-year span as an entertainer has also given her hits in the pop world with songs including “Baby, Baby”, “Good for Me”, and “Every Heartbeat” from her 1991 release Heart in Motion.  Other hits include “Lucky One” and the title track “House of Love” from her 1994 album.

“Whether helping a family in need, singing with a local symphony or performing in Tifton, Georgia, Amy Grant is all about sharing experiences and touching lives,” McCorvey said.  “Her voice combined with this kind of stage presence will make this one of our best shows.  We really try to focus on entertainers who will connect with the audience, and we know Amy Grant is great at doing that.”

Grant is the only contemporary Christian artist to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She also hosted a recent NBC-TV show called “Three Wishes”, where each week she granted three people from around the country one wish.

Seats are still available in the 2,000-seat John Hunt auditorium at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center.  Concert tickets only are $75 each.  Prime seat concert tickets with a lavish pre-concert dinner are $125 each.  Reserved tables for the meal, which include eight tickets together in a deluxe concert location, are $1,250.  A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible.

Platinum sponsors for the event are the Ambling University Development Group, Ameris Bank, Pennington Lawn and Garden Products, and The Stafford Companies.
