ABAC Jazz Band Stops At Homecoming En Route To Europe

TIFTON - The Jazz Ensemble at Abraham Baldwin College will use ABAC’s 100^th birthday as a springboard to participate in two of the most prestigious jazz festivals in the world. Under the direction of Don Coates, the Jazz Band will play at the Homecoming Dinner and Dance on March 30 as a fundraiser for a trip to Europe this summer.

ABAC will kick off its Centennial Celebration during the Homecoming weekend, and the Jazz Band’s performance is one of the highlights of the three-day event. The group will use the dance as a way to pay for the trip to the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland and the North Sea Jazz Festival in Da Hagg, Netherlands on July 5-19.

Coates said the band will get everyone on their feet with some lively tunes from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s at the dinner and dance which begins at 7 p.m. on March 30 in the Donaldson Dining Hall.

Tickets for the dinner/dance are $20 each purchased in advance or $22 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the ABAC Alumni Office or by calling (229) 391-4900.

Those desiring to attend the dance only can purchase tickets at the door for $5. The dance should start about 8 p.m.
