ALLISON WINS WOODROOF AWARD AT ABAC HONORS DAY

          TIFTON—Casey Allison, a business administration major from Dahlonega, was named the top academic student at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College during the Honors Day ceremony on Wednesday. Allison received the J. G. Woodroof Scholar Award given annually to the ABAC student who is recognized in a proclamation by the Georgia General Assembly. Woodroof was president of ABAC from 1933-34.                         

 Allison is an active member in Alpha Beta Gamma, serving in numerous positions including president and webmaster of the organization on the ABAC campus. He won the Donald Bertram Community Service Award and the Nathan Ancell Memorial Award through Alpha Beta Gamma.  He was also recently elected as the national president of Alpha Beta Gamma.

He has received the Divisional Award of Excellence in Business Administration and the Miller Award of Distinction.  He has been named a Phi Theta Kappa Leader of Promise and was awarded the John H. Dorminey Scholarship.

Allison also served as the webmaster for the Forestry and Wildlife Club and is an active member in ABAC’s Entrepreneurial Society and Phi Theta Kappa, the college’s international honor society.   He is the son of Cynthia and Chester Allison of Dahlonega.

Also during the ceremony, Divisional Awards of Distinction were presented to the students with the greatest overall positive impact in each division, both academically and through college service. 

Allison received the Award of Distinction for the Division of Business Administration; William H. Ray of Marietta received the Award of Distinction for the Division of Agriculture and Forest Resources; and the Award of Distinction for the Division of Humanities went to Laura B. Braziel of Fitzgerald.

In the Division of Nursing, the Award of Distinction went to Angela Locascio Linder from Lake Park; the Award of Distinction in the Division of Science and Mathematics was presented to Jacob R. Sauls of Tifton; and the Award of Distinction in the Division of Social Science was received by Amy L. Truelove of Ashburn.

The Cooperative Degree award went to Carol B. Mathis from Moultrie. This award is presented to a student who successfully completes work in a joint degree program from a technical college and at ABAC.

             A total of 37 Divisional Discipline awards were presented to students who excelled in their individual disciplines.

            Taylor L. Sumner of Sumner received the Agricultural Business Technology award. The Agricultural Education award went to Evelyn N. Felton of Tifton. Matt W. Spurlock of Perry received the Agricultural Engineering Technology award.  The Agriculture award went to Robert G. Lovett of Cuthbert. Janna L. Legg of Palm City, Fla., received the Animal Science Technology award. The Biological & Agricultural Engineering award went to Brett T. Cochran of Sylvester.

           Kimberly L. Troupe of Nashville received the Family & Consumer Sciences award. The Family & Consumer Sciences Technology award went to Shakira T. Bishop of Moultrie. Kraig H. Vickers of Leary received the award in Forest Technology. The Forest Resources award was received by Matthew W. Hughes of Barnesville.  Reese A. Brunson of Forsyth received the Golf Turf Management Technology award. The Grounds Management Technology award went to Cliff A. Smith of Tennille.

             The Landscape Design Technology award went to Cassandra J. Walters of Cumming. James J. Gannon of Leesburg received the Sports Turf Management Award. The Wildlife Technology award went to Russell P. Epps of Athens.

              Tabinda Maqsood of Chula received the Business Administration award, and the Information Technology award went to Brenda N. Doss of Tifton. Justin C. Usher of Nashville received the Art award. The Journalism award went to Laura B. Braziel from Fitzgerald. Brian D. Tankersley of Tifton received the English award. Tankersley also received the Mathematics award. The Music award went to Mary M. Vinnacombe of Douglasville. Brittany A. McClearen from Tifton received the Spanish award.                                                                                                       

           Carolyn E. Brannen of Tifton received the award for Allied Health. The Biology award went to Amber J. Jones of Omega. Elizabeth C. Lynn from Reidsville received the Chemistry award. The Physics award went to Micah N. Kunkel of Palmetto. The Pre-Professional award went to both Jake C. Fountain of Ashburn and Tammy Nhu of Tifton.

             Amy Truelove of Ashburn received the Criminal Justice award. The Early Childhood Education award went to Jeremy G. Morgan of Fitzgerald. Jesse K. Story of Sycamore received the award for History.  The Human Services & Sociology award went to Latassel S. Williams of Adel.

             The Middle Grades Education award went to Tina G. Griner of Alapaha. Caroline J. Brown of Rochelle received the P – 12 Education award.  The Political Science award went to Heather L. Gilman of Ashburn. Timothy J. Parks of Pitts received the Psychology award.
