MCMILLAN CHOSEN AS ABAC NEWSPAPER EDITOR

TIFTON – Michael McMillan, a sophomore journalism major from Eastman, is the new managing editor of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s student newspaper, The Stallion.

“ABAC is a good place to start,” McMillan said. “I like that the college still feels like a small town college even though it’s growing rapidly. You get that one-on-one attention with a high-school feel.”

McMillan’s start with The Stallion was an unexpected one. “I was taking Journalism 1101 with Mr. Cash and after reading a few of my papers he asked if I would like to join The Stallion,” McMillan said. “I started out as a staff writer then moved to sports editor, and finally to managing editor this year.”

He decided to major in journalism after watching the broadcasters on ESPN. “I love sports, especially baseball,” McMillan said. “Ideally, I would love to be a broadcaster for ESPN after college, but I am also interested in law.”

McMillan’s other hobbies include hunting, playing video games and hanging out with his friends.

He is on schedule to graduate in spring of 2007 from ABAC with an Associate’s degree in Journalism.

“I am interested in going to Georgia State University or Kennesaw, but I haven’t made my mind up yet,” McMillan said. “I’m not sure if I’ll major in journalism after ABAC. I would like to possibly major in pre-law or English, but right now I’m undecided.”

McMillan’s plans for the future depend on what career path he takes. “If I stay in journalism I’d like to be in a big field like Boston or New York, but if I go into law I would eventually like to have my own firm,” McMillan said.  “No matter what career I choose I would like to have a family one day.”
