ABAC FALL PICNIC AND CONCERT OCTOBER 11

 

            TIFTON -- The annual Abraham Baldwin College Fall Picnic and Concert sponsored by the ABAC Music Department, Music Educators National Conference (MENC), SODEXHO Food Services, and the Campus Activity Board (CAB) will be held Oct. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. The picnic will be at the ABAC Place Pavilion located on the southwest side of the ABAC Place Apartments. This event is open to the public as well as ABAC students, faculty, and staff.

            SODEXHO Food Services will provide barbeque style foods, baked beans, corn on the cob, and potato salad. Cookies will be available for dessert, and tea and lemonade will be served. Meals are $6 each. ABAC students with a Gold or Silver meal plan will be allowed to eat from their meal plan with no additional charge.

            The Concert Band will perform a variety of selections including Americans We, Poet and Peasant, Black Magic Woman, and Georgia on My Mind. Highlights from the famous musical, Phantom of the Opera, will feature Phantom of the Opera, All I Ask of You, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, and more.

            Eugene Wyles, Concert Band director said, “Overall, this performance will give the public a taste of our November concert.”

            The ABAC Jazz Choir, directed by Dr. Susan Roe, will present several selections that are well known in today’s culture. The group will sing Anything Goes from the musical Anything Goes, I Got Rhythm, Autumn Leaves, I Only Have Eyes For You and The More I See You. The choir will close out the concert with Give Me the Simple Life.

            The ABAC Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Don Coates, will play selections of swing and blues tunes from the Big Band era.

The Jazz Choir will perform on the ABAC stage at the annual Sunbelt Expo in Moultrie on Oct. 18, and the Jazz Band will perform at the same venue on Oct. 19. The Concert Choir and Band will perform again at the annual Fall Concert on Nov. 16 in Howard Auditorium.
