‘KENYON AND HIS COOL JAZZ’ AT FIRST TUESDAY CONCERT NOVEMBER 7

             TIFTON - The First Tuesday concert on Nov. 7 at Abraham Baldwin College will feature Tiftonite Kenyon Carter and the David Brothers Band. The performance will take place at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths. Dr. Susan Roe, professor of voice, is the series coordinator.

            Individual tickets for the performance may be purchased at the door. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for students. ABAC students are admitted free with ID. Patrons of the Arts and Entertainment Series can also attend at no charge.

An ABAC art exhibit will be in the Music Building adjacent to the Chapel. It will feature paintings, drawings, and two-dimensional designs by ABAC students. The exhibit will be open for viewing before and after the concert.

Carter is a saxophonist and composer/arranger. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from VSU and a Master’s degree from Georgia State University, both in jazz saxophone performance. While at VSU, he was selected as an outstanding soloist at the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival, America’s largest collegiate jazz festival.

He is a regular member of The David Brothers Band, The Georgia Big Band, and The Soul Purpose Band. Carter is the band director at Thomson Middle School in Centerville and serves as Vice President of the Georgia Association of Jazz Educators. He is married to Catherine Carter and resides in Perry.

The David Brothers Band consists of Andy David, trumpet; Steve Pruitt, trombone; Robert Orr, guitar; Tim Aucoin, bass; John David, drums; and Carter on tenor saxophone.

Carter will feature Zigaboogaloo by Nicholas Payton, This I Dig of You by Hank Mobley, Victor Young’s My Foolish Heart performed by featured vocalist Vann Thorton, Stevie Wonder’s My Cherie Amour featuring vocalist Catherine Carter, and Green Chimneys by Thelonious Monk. Carter will also perform an original piece, Catherine’s Eyes, at the concert.
